I am the founder of Shamika Walker Foundation. I started this foundation in memory of my daughter Shamika Walker who was diagnosed with HPV and stage 4 cervical cancer. Unfortunately, her diagnoses was in the late stages and there were very few solutions to save her life. Through this non-profit I provide a community and a space for conversations concerning HPV that are not frequent in the healthcare industry. I realized there were thousands, or millions of people dealing with symptoms of HPV and have very little resources. HPV is one of the topics that is unpopular in the cancer family. HPV is related to several cancer-causing disease, transported through sexual intercourse. We serve all ages, and cultures dealing with this disease.

I’ve always been an entrepreneur and business owner for many years. I believe strongly in building my own business and expanding my resources and solutions to have several streams of income.

What or who has been your greatest influence in business and why?
My daughter Shamika has been my greatest influence simply from her story because I know this organization has the power to save lives such as hers. I am raising her 5 children and I want them to know that many lives can and will be blessed from the information and resources we provide.

What have you learned as a business owner and entrepreneur that you can pass on to others seeking this position or just started out in business?
My advice would be to do your research and to hire a coach. Utilize platform like YouTube if you have a small budget or no budget.

Are there any resources or tools you’d like to share with other small business owners that have helped you run your business? If yes, please describe (and include links if available).
The tools I would leave the audience is to use your cell phone, laptop and iPad to run your business and make money. Technology is a huge asset, and we should be utilizing the benefits daily to scale our businesses and build new ones.
